Eminent writer-filmmaker Sagar Sarhadi Dies, who wrote films like ‘Kabhi Kabhi’, ‘Silsila’ and ‘Bazaar’, died on Sunday night due to health issues related to age. He was 88. Sarhadi’s nephew and filmmaker Ramesh Talwar told ‘PTI-Bhasha’ that he breathed his last at his residence near Zion here. Talwar said, ‘He died shortly before midnight. He had been ill for some time and had even given up food. Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff has paid tribute to Sagar Sarhadi through a tweet.

He said that Sagar Sarhadi’s funeral will be performed this afternoon at the Sion crematorium. Born in the city of Baffa, near the city of Abbottabad, Pakistan, Sarahadi was named Ganga Sagar Talwar. Due to his connection with the frontier province, he had added ‘border’ in front of his name. At the age of 12, he came to Delhi and started living. Sarhadi started her career with Urdu short stories and then became an Urdu theatrical writer. He entered Bollywood with filmmaker Yash Chopra’s 1976 film Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha starrer Kabhi Kabhi.

Sagar Sarhadi wrote dialogues for films like Chopra’s ‘Silsila (1981)’ and ‘Chandni’ starring Sridevi and Rishi Kapoor. In 1982 Sarhadi tried his hand at directing and directed the film ‘Bazaar’ starring Supriya Pathak Shah, Farooq Sheikh, Smita Patil and Naseeruddin Shah. Sarhadi also wrote dialogues for actor Shah Rukh Khan’s debut film ‘Deewana’ in 1992 and Hrithik Roshan’s debut film ‘Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai’.
