What is the government doing to stop piracy?

The government has taken decisive measures to prevent movie piracy. According to the Cinematograph Act, which was passed in 2019, anybody caught recording a movie without the prior permission of the makers faces a prison sentence of up to three years. A fine of ten lakh rupees may also be levied on the perpetrators. People who distribute pirated copies on unauthorised torrent websites can even face prison time.

Will I go to jail or be fined for downloading a movie illegally?

According to Indian piracy law, if an individual is brought to court and it is proved that he/she intentionally infringed or assisted someone else infringing and downloading a copyrighted movie from DownloadHub movie download, it is called a criminal act. The court would presume that the individual was aware of the violation because, in most cases, the film bears a watermark or note indicating that it is a copyrighted work.

Under the law, the punishment for a person being convicted for their first such offence is a jail term for six months and three years, with a fine between ₹50,000 and ₹200,000 (depending on the seriousness of the offence).
